Incredible Smiles Woodville offers you options to keep you comfortable throughout your dental procedure. If you’ve been avoiding going to the dentist due to nervousness or anxiety, rest assured that we make every effort to ensure that you feel stress-free when you visit us. Inhalation sedation and IV sedation are both available to our patients.

Inhalation Sedation

Sit back, relax and breathe using a mask that you can breathe normally in while wearing. It acts quickly and prevents you from feeling the full effects of any discomfort. There are no side effects following the procedure.

Since you’re feeling completely at ease, we can even perform more than one treatment in a single visit.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

If you’re having wisdom teeth extracted or dental implants done, our anaesthetist will administer IV sedation. You’ll feel an extreme sense of relaxation and upon the completion of your procedure, won’t fully recollect what was done. Multiple treatments can be taken care of at once with this option. You’ll need someone to drive you home and will require resting the remainder of the day. Please note that there is an added cost for IV sedation.

Laughing gas is the lightest option for dental sedation and can be used in practically any procedure. The relaxation it allows helps ease your mind, without any lingering side effects or drowsiness.

On the other hand, IV sedation is just a level away from general anaesthesia. This sedation service works well for people who

  • Are extremely anxious
  • Require wisdom tooth extraction
  • Are receiving multiple dental implants
  • Need several services performed at once

IV sedation requires a carer to accompany you to your appointment and drive you home, due to the effects of the medication.

If you feel too anxious for dental care or don’t want to be awake during larger treatments, sedation is an excellent choice. Depending on the complexity and length of your procedure, we can help you determine if happy gas or IV sedation is better for your situation. The majority of our IV sedation cases are for people having their wisdom teeth removed or multiple implants placed on the day.

Is sedation safe?

Absolutely. Only licensed providers administer your sedation medication. All IV sedation is provided by a 3rd party anaesthetist who comes to our office for pre-planned procedures.

What is the difference between laughing gas and IV sedation?

Laughing gas is inhaled and disappears within minutes of the nosepiece being removed. IV sedation uses medication placed into your body via an intravenous line, causing you to feel extremely drowsy for a couple of hours at a time.

How much does laughing gas cost?

Happy gas cost about $70 per half hour or $140 per hour.

How much does IV sedation cost?

All anaesthesia fees are billed separately through the anaesthetist. The fee for IV sedation is typically between $800-1700 depending on what is required and the length of the appointment.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes. So long as you do not have a complex medical history or recreational drugs, sedation is a safe and predictable way to enhance your dental care. You are carefully monitored by either a registered nurse or anaesthetist as well as our licensed dental providers.

Is sedation available for children?

Yes, twilight sedation/sleep dentistry can be done where appropriate for children over 8 years of age.

Will my health insurance cover sedation?

We recommend checking with your health insurance directly to determine your eligibility. Since those fees are collected by the anaesthetist, you do not pay us for those services.
